Kennedy has no time for my inbox.
Every morning, at the same time, he stares me down with that unmistakable Rottweiler persistence that says:
"It’s time. The walk comes first."
No exceptions. No delays.
And honestly? He’s right.
As leaders, especially in sectors like aged care, disability, mental health or community services, we’re taught to put others first.
Staff. Clients. Boards. Reports. Risk registers.
Somewhere in there, we forget that we lead best when we’re not running on fumes.
Kennedy’s morning walk isn’t optional — for him or for me.
It’s time to move, breathe, unplug, and reset.
It’s a boundary I’ve learned to protect.
Not just for my health, but for my clarity, calm, and ability to lead with intention.
I’ve worked with incredible leaders who give everything to their teams… until there’s nothing left.
And the truth is, burnt-out leaders can’t build thriving cultures.
We model what’s okay. If we never pause, never say no, never walk away — our teams learn that’s the standard.
And that’s not sustainable.
Kennedy reminds me every day:
🐾 Self-care isn’t selfish.
🐾 Boundaries aren’t barriers — they’re essentials.
🐾 The walk comes first, because I come first - and oh does he love a trip to the doggy day spa!
Even in leadership.
Especially in leadership.
